Treat me like my birthday, I want it this way and I want it that way. If a trade has gone against them, they can usually still sell any time value remaining on the option — and this is more likely if the option contract is longer. The same thing happens on the second day, and on the third day. This joke is so old, I can't remember where I first read it, but I think it was talking about investment bankers. That'll be the last time that ever happens going forward thanks to this hard learned experience. More of my new strategy in development involves focusing on affordable underlyings of major ETFs and making trades based on the Money Flow Index MFI indicator which helps me make better predictions of whether to buy a call or put.
Each month is an opportunity for me to start fresh and not make the same mistakes. Although you guys told me so, I had to experience losing it all first hand. Many life lessons have been learned along the way as well. Just chiming in … will update in January Be on the look-out for a post titled "Options brought me to my knees so that it could gift me with wings to fly". Dumb asses wtf if you don't catch that wsb is meme humor for stocks and options you're part of the joke.
I like to follow it for two reasons, 1. I find the pure crudeness of people insulting each other and themselves while all of them are losing money to be hilarious 2. Lesson learned and I avoid the memes because one little tweet and everyone over reacts and it crashed hard. That sub has high quality stock picks and memes, but most autists are not smart enough to find a correct time to open a position.
When the market had that pullback. It was a super crazy buy Anyway I thought it was cool. And yes I agree: Have you tried backtesting or paper trading your new strategy using MFI? There are a million ways to set up MFI with different periods and parameters and they will all signal different things on different stocks.
I think you will find your new MFI based strategy challenging to make money in options for a few reasons. Reason 1 is MFI is just another way to display momentum and potentially signal overbought or oversold conditions. Overbought or oversold signals don't tell you anything about the stock or the company, just that price might have moved a little too much too fast in one direction recently.
Most important, MFI or RSI or whatever gimmick indicator cannot tell you what the price reversion speed might look like, if reversion happens at all. If a stock is "overbought" for example got too expensive and MFI is high what happens next: Time is not on your side when buying options - slow small moves won't help much - theta and beta will kill your profits trading options if you're not careful. Reason 2 is that MFI and similar indicators are really bullshit, if it worked well then trading algos would easily be programmed to find it and trade it against you and eat the profits.
Trading options can make money. Probably not gona double every month or any month but still you can make good money using options with practice. BUT IMO it sounds like your old and your new trading strategies both involve trying to make money by using options to bet on technical price reversions "calls ATM after earnings dip".
Small price reversion plays like these are probably the worst thing to use options for. A mugger approaches them with a gun and demands all of their money.
This joke is so old, I can't remember where I first read it, but I think it was talking about investment bankers. Oh well I guess you could easily substitute the two.
A pirate walks into a bar with a ship steering wheel attached below his belt. The bartender ask him what is he doing with that, and he replies " I dunno, but it's driving meeeeee nutts!!!
A trader was travelling along in a hot air balloon, when all of a sudden hot air started escaping from the balloon. The balloon strayed off course and rapidly descended, hitting the ground and ending up in the middle of a paddock. The trader looked around the paddock but had no idea where he was. Suddenly, a man approached the balloon and asked the trader if he could help him.
The trader said yes, and asked the man if he could tell him where he was. The man answered eagerly "you are in a hot air balloon, in the middle of a paddock".
The trader replied, "oh, you must be an accountant". The man smiled and said "yes, how did you know? A man in a hot air balloon realised he was lost. He reduced his altitude and saw a man below. I promised a friend I would meet him an hour ago but I don't know where I am," he said. The man below replied: You are between 40 and 41 degrees North latitude and between 56 and 57 degrees West longitude.
To which the balloonist replied: The reply came from above: Frankly, you've not been much help so far. The man below responded: To which the man on the ground said: You have risen to your current position due to a large quantity of hot air. You made a promise which you have no idea how to keep and you expect me to solve your problem. The fact is, you are in exactly the same position you were in before we met, but now, somehow, it's my fault. A successful trader parked his brand new Porsche in front of the office ready to show it off to his colleagues.
As he got out a lorry came along too close to the kerb and completely tore off the driver's side. The trader immediately grabbed his mobile and dialled It wasn't more than 5 minutes before a policeman pulled up. Before the policeman had a chance to ask any questions, the trader started screaming how his car, which he just picked up that day, was completely ruined and would never be the same again.
